Liv Schaffer is a painter and writer from the Jersey Shore, exploring the ways digital collage and artifacting can be translated into paint.
Inspired by painters like Gustav Klimt, Katherine Bradford, and Mark Rothko, they are forever obsessed with being able to see the artist’s hand within a piece — from overall style to the individual brushstrokes. Their work is characterized by these things, using bright colors, broad strokes, and translucency in hopes to capture how their hand translates from the digital to the physical.
Liv graduated from the University of the Arts in 2023, and is currently setting up a studio in the Italian Market where they intend to explore this obsession more. Using film photos of their friends, they are making large scale pieces that push color and texture even further.
